The Benefits of Laminated Glass

K Parker Joinery The GREEN Movement has drawn the attention of Developers, Architects and Builders to the energy saving benefits of laminated safety glass K.Parker Joinery has been supplying wooden windows and doors with safety glass to clients who are now designing and building houses for energy efficiency. A key measure for rating the energy efficiency of a product is its U value. The higher the U value the more heat flows through a building component so a good value is a low one as you want to keep heat inside the building or outside depending on the time of year. Living in a building that has low U values has a number of advantages: It saves money on the energy bill It helps preserve the environment It is good for your health It gives better indoor comfort Suppliers of energy efficient glass have worked out U values for their products and several choices are available to clients. We have looked at the advantages of two ranges, Low E and SOLARVUE™ SOLARVUE™ Neutral glass has a U value of 5.8 It limits the sun’s energy entering a room This means it is better if your interest is to keep rooms cool in summer The Low E (emissivity) Range Clear glass has a U value of 3.4 It limits the amount of heat leaving a room Therefore it is better for keeping rooms warm in winter If you have any questions regarding energy efficient glass please contact me and I am only too happy to give you answers. Using energy efficient glass includes adding rubber seals to all window openers to ensure a better fit and adding rubber seals to all external door frames. Windows lose and gain heat in four ways, by conduction, convection, radiation and air leakage
